Advent 4490 battery/won't charge/keys won't work

Hi there,

This is the first time I thought to come to a forum but I hope you guys will be able to help. I have an advent 4490 netbook, 2-3 years old. Last year, my charger stopped working, so I replaced it, but the laptop needs to be plugged in at all times now to keep it on (battery life is around 30 minutes). However, other that the charger having to be plugged in, it worked absolutely fine. A few months ago though, it started to freeze, a few minutes after start up. Then later, it stopped letting me log in at all, and the keys wouldn't respond and when they did - they would repeat that letter as though they were stuck. Last week I tried to switch it on and now it's not responding to anything at all. I have no idea what to do with it, it seems to be giving in and dying! I would like to be able to fix it if possible.

I'm at uni at the moment so I don't have lots of money to be throwing around when fixing it. Any advice you guys could give a poor student would be greatly appreciated. Thank you x
