Advent 7087 spares

Postby Eah_Dunno » Fri Jan 06, 2012 9:42 pm

Hello to you all :P

Not sure if Im in the right place with this - forgive me if Im not.

My 7087 has seen better days  Specifically the screen bezel whereby 2 great big cracks have appeared which make the screen sway around way too much for my liking. The duct tape that I have used as a temporary repair cannot really get a hold given the limited space so I am trying to source a replacement screen bezel.

I thought about buying a replacement unit on eBay but to be honest I baulked at the unit price + postage for a defunct model especially as all I need is the plastic bezel.

So

Can anyone advise where else I can source just this part :P

or

Can anyone advise if there are any compatible models

Any ideas, ciomment or fixing ideas would be greatly appreciated :P

It's an Advent. Spares are rarer than hens' teeth.
Briefly Advent are cheap notebooks sourced by Dixons Stores (PCWorld, Currys etc) from various manufacturers which are designed to be used until they break and then thrown away.
The 7087 is a Quanta LE1D which were never taken up by the major Quanta resellers and is well past its end of life.
I would forget it and look to sourcing a modern notebook (not (b)Advent)

Hi Ranibeke

Thanks for your time in replying.

Bum news :( I knew that the model was old but didnt think it would be this difficult to source a spare part. The extra bonus being that the part that I need, to the best of my understanding, should be fairly cheap.

The problem that I have is that the laptop is not my main pc it's only used when Im travelling with the work which is fairly infrequently. Its not used anywhere near enough for me to justify buying a new laptop espcially as everything with it works fine.

There were a few listings on ebay for different models - do you know where I can check compatibility????

Thanks again for your comments

:) :) :)

Just an update for anyone with a similar problem. This may be old news to some but even if it helps one person its worth me posting.

On further inspection it was not the plastic bezel that was the problem it was the actual hinges. One was completely snapped and the other had a crack that was 90% across the entire hinge width. Ebay proved ineffective in that only a right hand hinge was available at £16 if memory serves.

I had the idea to enter the manufacturing code stamped along the length of the actual bracket and was overwhelmed that the search result brought up 2 hinges but for a Levano laptop. These hinges seemed to host a vasty different fixing. On looking at the photos I thought that the additional fixing component could be removed manually and for £7 thought what the hell.

With a couple pairs of plyers I was indeed able to remove the surplus fixings and would you believe it the hinges fitted.

I can now open and close my laptop as if it were new!! :) :)

It might not be the prettiest laptop nor the quickest but it does what I need it to do and I have saved myself a small fortune. I was really reluctant to buy even a reconditioned laptop at £100 on the basis that my one, electronically at least, still worked.

If this helps anyone - my work here is done!! Should I be able to help anyone furhter please let me know

:D :D :D :D
