charging problems

hi guys im having trouble when i charge my advent 7107. it charges ok when off or in hibernation, and it does charge when its on but the mouse and pointer lock up and the screen changes brightness intermitently. it essentially means i cannot use it on ac power. im thinking its probably a hardware issue but hoping someone might hav had similar problems and can offer a solution. many thanks.
