Hi all,
So, I've had my laptop since Feb 2010 and the battery life since has been pretty poor I must say. It gradually worsened to a point where it would last say 10 minutes and shut off without warning. So I basically had to power save it as much as possible e.g lowest brightness. It got to a point where I had to have it permanently plugged in if I wanted to use it without risking it turning off at any point. Anyway, today I was on my laptop, when it did not recognise I was plugged in. It would sometimes flash up and have me as plugged in but 2 seconds later show it was unplugged. Now I plug it in whether the laptop is on or off and there is no indication that the laptop is plugged in and charging. No lights or anything. Is the laptop battery dead? I can hear the power brick still making a noise. I think its either my battery fully dead or the jack/port is broken. Any way of finding out/getting a fix?

Hi TJBoo, I too have an Advent Roma 2001. I have the same problem, my battery keeps getting low and switching itself off. I've been told that once the battery is charged up you should unplug it from the mains use up the charge and then re-charge the battery again. I was told that it was designed to take it travelling without constant electricity. Apparently once the battery is 100% charged it runs down with too much charging. I have to write in to get a manual as it wasn't included with the computer.
Hope this is of some help. I don't know how true it is.

i'm having the exact same problem with an advent 3001. i got a new ac adapter cord and it seemed to do the trick but the problem's back again. even when the laptop is constantly plugged in it shuts down without any warning. i left it turned on (plugged in) through the night last night and it stayed on ok but plugged it out this morning and it lasted about two minutes on battery.
i'm sure the battery is buggered but i think there is a bad power jack connection as well which is causing it to go "off charge" while plugged in and hence switching off. another problem which i've just sussed is that if the computer has shut down either because it's been plugged out or the connection was poor i have to charge the battery for a while before it will even boot up again plugged in.
it also won't power up if i have the battery out and the mains plugged in, i'm not sure if this is a standard set up on advent laptops but i was able to do this with my other laptops.
help??!?
