Reinstallation fails with "Failed to apply VISTA.WIM"

Postby Drongo » Tue Jan 25, 2011 10:21 am

I am trying to restore the operating system onto an Advent 5611 for a friend. A new hard disk has been installed and the original recovery disks used. Every time I try to re-install it stops half way through with the error "Failed to apply Vista.wim". Ordered new recovery disks from TechGuys and the same thing is happening. Anyone got any ideas?

A quick Google suggests Advent is a brand prone to this for some reason. It happens on different models and with Windows 7 which uses the same image type.
Can you look at the recovery disc and see if the following files are on it, install.wim, boot.wim and X13-49120.exe, if they are you might try creating a standard Vista install disc.
Instructions here

Another option is beg, borrow an OEM copy of Vista (Home Premium?) and install it using the key underneath the notebook

Hello,

What version is your CP disc? XP should have no problems with an SATA Hdd. Go into the Bios and set SATA to IDE.
You will need the Mobo drivers also.
