Roma 1000 Laptop running slow

Hi

I'm new to this site and looking for some help on my laptop I got for Xmas last year. I had barely started using in and then it started running slow after a few times. I have only added a few programmes to it, like Microsoft office. Booting i up is really slow and some times the internet is so slow taking up to 10 minutes to change from one page to another. Has anyone come across this problem before and what can I do to resolve it.

Specs is;
Advent Roma 1000
intel Celeron C900
3072mb DDR2 RAM
160GB
DVD+/-RW
Wireless is 802.11b/g
Intergrated Intel Mobile 4 series

Any help would be much appreciated for a girl who does not have a clue.
