Installing XP on Advent Vista Notebooks with Intel chipset.

Postby Ranibeke » Sat Mar 14, 2009 11:54 am

These notebooks are supplied with a restricted BIOS and do not recognise SATA hard drives as "Native IDE". Because of this it is necessary to install the SATA controller drivers during the XP install using a USB floppy drive or "slipstream" them into the XP installation CD. As most users do not have floppy drives anymore slipstreaming is the only option.

Important Steps
1. Make the Vista Recovery Media. If the notebook develops a fault the TechGuys will not accept warranty claims unless the notebook has the original Advent Vista operating system installed.
2. Make a list of the hardware found in Vista Device Manager, this will help searching for drivers.
3. Go to the Intel Matrix Storage Manager web page and download the drivers. Ignore the floppy configuration name, just unzip the drivers. http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_ ... 1&lang=eng
4.Use the guide found at http://www.msfn.org/board/Integration-I ... 07504.html

I've just installed XP Pro on my Advent 6650.

I had to slipstream the Intel ICH9 Textmode drivers on to the installation CD. Without the slipstreamed drivers, XP will not boot!

I used the Intel(R) 4 Series Chipset (January 19, 2009) INFINST_AUTOL to fill in most of the missing hardware.

Realtek Semiconductor Corp. High Definition Audio System Software Ver: R2.27 for the audio.

The same drivers also enabled my Ethernet ?!?!?.

MSI MSI_RT6x_RT7x_1.0.0.0302 for the wireless.

Now all working hunky dory.

Ive successfully slpstreamed XP onto an Advent Roma laptop. Ive saved the raid drivers, winnt.sif and txtsetup.sif files needed for this to http://cid-f44b35917ec6678a.skydrive.li ... px/.Public
Create a folder at the root of your XP install location called $OEM$ and another one inside that called $1. Now extract the Raid zip file to \$OEM$\$1\
Copy the winnt.sif and txtsetup.sif to the i386 folder. Allow the copy to overwrite the existng files.

For the full process see http://www.maximumpc.com/article/How-To ... page=0%2C0
