Hard Drive Replacement

Postby dhearn » Fri Jul 30, 2010 7:07 pm

Hi, I have an advent 7087 notebook, the hard drive is dead, and i need a replacement. Just looking for some advice on what to buy I'm a bit worried about compatibility problems.
The old one is an hitachi travelstar 40gb 5200rpm ide, I was just going to find the same make and size but can only find second hand ones.
I've had a look around and have seen a western digital scorpian blue, 80gb ide, would this be compatible?

Thanks in advance..
Denise.

The 80 GB Western Digital WD800BEVE Scorpio Blue, 2.5" IDE should be fine. Price about £42

You should be able to use any manufacturer & capacity of hard drive, the important factor is the connection interface. i.e. any 2.5" IDE/PATA hard drive will work OK. It would be cheaper to buy a 160Gg OEM drive than an 80Gb external drive and you'll end up with twice the storage capacity to boot.

Something like THIS DRIVE will work just fine. Note: I have no affiliation with the supplier, but I have often used them and find their service to be excellent. Most computer component suppliers should be able to sell you a suitable drive. 8)

Eh?
I don't think the op was suggesting an external drive. The WD Scorpio 800BEVE is also sold by Ebuyer and is definitely internal, IDE and 2.5" form factor.

Personally, I prefer WD over Samsung.
